The Concise Methodology for Understanding and Applying the Wisdom of Qur'an (or Any Divine Scripture)



God, the Ultimate Reality is one and singular, as Children of Adam - humanity is a single family and religion of humanity is singular Divine Code.

Truth is always singular, falsehood is always plural.

For every epoch and various communities of humanity God sent messengers and prophet to remind and revise the simple but ancient truth that God is One, humanity is One, Divine Code of God is from Singular Source.

Only later on this codex is corrupted and singular truth is broken into many pieces dividing the humanity into many so called "religions", "sects", "denominations" etc.

The crux of this division is often manifest by the misinterpretation of the Divinely Revealed Scripture, whether its Torah, Bible or Quran; all of which are revealed from the very same God. The door of these misinterpretation are kept open through human error to over-explain things simply not intended by God and in manner which are unnecessary.

In the process we discarded for example the actual teachings of Jesus and followed those who put their opinions after Jesus. Same applies for any and all other Messengers of God.

In the Divinely revealed books, often there are certain commands which are plain, simple and direct, which needs no explanation. And yet, various theologian and so called experts in their introducing unnecessary explanations and opinions, mislead and divide people.

There are other matters about which the Divine Scripture may provide hints but not so direct command. For that the Prophets and Messengers used to give instruction through their words and action.

In order for people to navigate back to the Divine Truth which are corrupted over thousands of years of corruption, here are few concise methodology for studying, understanding and applying the Qur'an - but this can equally apply for any other Divinely revealed book of the past. The texts below are adopted from the writings of Imamuddin Muhammad Toaha bin Habeeb in his magnum opus, This is Islam, This is Muhammad (written originally in Bangla). **


1) That which is clear and unambiguous in the Qur'an (or in the Scripture), for that subject, no other explanation is to be considered. Any attempt to explain them need to be discarded to avoid any possibility of divisions due to differences in those explanations.

2) That which are only hinted but not enough explained, for that the qawl (sayings) of Rasul (Messenger) and attested by his action should be examined and followed.

3) That which are neither mentioned in the Qur'an (or in the Scripture), nor hinted, for such subject no opinion on such subjects by any theologian or doctors of religion, no matter for how long they are introduced, no matter how long we are programmed by these, whether they were introduced by any mufassir, muhaddhis, fuqaha of madhab are aught to be negated.

4) If any contemporary issues or problems are raised, for such matter, decision of imam of the time (waqtiya imam) are to be activated.

This is the meaning of:

Atiu Allaha wa Atiyur Rasula wa ulil amru minkum.

The full verse is read as:


يا أَيُّهَا الَّذينَ آمَنوا أَطيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطيعُوا الرَّسولَ وَأُولِي الأَمرِ مِنكُم ۖ فَإِن تَنازَعتُم في شَيءٍ فَرُدّوهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَالرَّسولِ إِن كُنتُم تُؤمِنونَ بِاللَّهِ وَاليَومِ الآخِرِ ۚ ذٰلِكَ خَيرٌ وَأَحسَنُ تَأويلًا


O you who have faith! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those vested with authority among you. And if you dispute concerning anything, refer it to Allah and the Messsenger, if you have faith in Allah and the Last Day. That is better and more favourable in outcome. 

(Quran 4:59)

For the first point above, we are reminded that first priority and obedience is that of God's Command (AtiuLlah).

For the second point above, second priority and obedience is that of God's Messenger's (wa AtiurRasul).

Third point is critical to avoid sectarianism and if we observer carefully, it is precisely haggling and nitpicking in matter of Divine Code that divisions arise and religion is turned into absurdity.

Fourth point is indicated by Ulil Amru Minkum, those people worthy of leadership of the community in any point in time (minkum applies to all in present and future); the kind of people who themselves are guided by God's command and the example of the Messenger (in this case, whether the Messenger be Moses, Jesus or Muhammad, peace and blessings of God be upon them all).


If the above mentioned concise methodology for understanding and applying the Divine Wisdom revealed in all and any Scripture is followed, then we can do away with the divisions, split, sectarianism and confusion and hopefully return back to the pristine truth as revealed by God.

সকল নবীদের কালেমা, "লা ইলাহা ইল্লাল্লাহ"। আল্লাহ ব্যতিত কোনো "ইলাহ" নেই। এবং নবীদের আদর্শ ব্যাতিত কোন শরীয়ত, মাযহাব ও ইবাদত বন্দেগী নেই। এক কথায়, "তাওহীদের উর্দ্ধে কোন ঈমান নেই এবং রিসালাতের নীচে কোন দ্বীন ও শরীয়ত নেই।"

খাঁটি তাওহীদ ও রিসালাতের উপরে দৃঢ় প্রত্যয় ব্যক্ত করে ঈমানদার মাত্রই ঘোষণা করে যে, সৃষ্টির কল্যানের সকল বিধান কোরআনে রয়েছে। প্রমান, সুরা আনআমের ৩৮ নং আয়াত যেখানে আল্লাহ বলছেন, "আমি এ কিতাবে কোনো কিছুই বাদ দিই নি।"

আল্লাহ কোরআনে স্পষ্ট করে বলে দিয়েছেন: তোমরা আল্লাহর আনুগত্য করবে, তোমাদের রাসুলের আনুগত্য করবে এবং তোমাদের মধ্যে আল্লাহ ও রাসুলের অনুগতদের মধ্যে থেকে যে তোমাদের নির্দেশক হবে, তোমার তার আনুগত্য করবে। 

* তাই, কোরআনে যা স্পষ্ট উল্লেখ রয়েছে, সে বিষয়ে অন্য কোনো ব্যাখ্যা বা কারো কোনো মতামত চলবে না।

* যে ব্যাপারে কোরআনে উল্লেখ আছে, ব্যাখ্যা নেই, সে ক্ষেত্রে শুধুমাত্র রাসুুল (সা.) এর বক্তব্য ও আমলকে মিলিয়ে তা গ্রহন করতে হবে।

* যে সমস্ত বিষয়ে কোরআনে কোন উল্লেখ নেই, ইংগিতও নেই, সে ব্যাপারে যতো ব্যাখ্যাই প্রচলিত রয়েছে, যতো বিবরণই চলে এসেছে, সব বর্জন ও প্রত্যাখ্যান করতে হবে।

* সমসাময়িক কোন নুতন সমস্যা দেখা দিলে "ইমামের ওয়াক্তের" ইজতিহাদ সেক্ষেত্রে কার্যকর হবে।


ক্বেয়ামতের দিনে স্বাক্ষ্য দেওয়ার লক্ষ্যে স্বীয় আমলনামা তৈরীর জন্য বিশ্বমানবের সামনে মুসলিম উম্মাহ ও তাদের ইমামের ঘোষণা হবে:

* একমাত্র আল্লাহ সম্পূর্ণ
* তার রিসালাত পূর্ণ, এবং
* তাঁর শেষ নবী (স.) দ্বীনের পূর্ণ নমুনা প্রতিষ্ঠিত করে্ই পৃথিবী থেকে বিদায় নিযেছেন।

- এ হ'লো ইসলাম, এ ছিলেন মুহাম্মদ (সা.) - সকল বর্ণের সমাহার, বর্ণবাদ নয়, অন্যরা যা' বলে তা নয় - ইমামুদ্দীন মুহাম্মদ তোয়াহা বিন হাবীব
