Meditation on Expansion of Heart

Today i had this vision when i was reading Quran on my way to somewhere when i was on underground train. I thought it could be a nice and powerful meditation. So i’m putting it on blog before it gets lost in other thoughts.

First let me go though the background of the verses that i was reading. One was from chapter 94, Al-Inshirah (The expansion). The verse is: Alam nashrah laka sadraka, meaning Have We not expanded for you your heart? (here God addresses Muhammad.)

This is a mystical verse which signifies, the illumination of the heart with wisdom and its vastness for the reception of the Divine.

Then another verse strikes me, Qad aflaha man tazakka, meaning He indeed shall be successful who purifies himself (from chapter 87, Al-Ala, The Most High).

Combining these two inspiring verse, the following vision came to me. You can use it as a meditation for yourself. The above picture may guide you to the meditation.

First imagine, a huge field. The color is truly green, as lively as you can think. The sky is truly blue. Now in the horizon, middle place between the field and sky imagine your heart. This is the metaphorical heart that represent your soul. Imagine the shape of heart there, as if it is suspended from the heaven.

Now imagine cleaning your heart. It could be done by praying to God or you can yourself do it. Ask God to clean your heart, to purify it. Also be conscious about the actions that purify the heart.

Imagine expanding the field unto infinity. The field and sky together represent your ‘soul space’. So imagine expanding it in all direction and imagine purifying your heart. May God, The Most Pure help us purify ourselves.
